Floor Coverings International Comes to Knoxville Area
After Building Wealth for Others in Past Career, New Biz Owner is Starting from the Ground Floor – Literally – and Loving It

(Knoxville, TN)-Listening to Robin Haffer, you can tell he has lived his life with an athlete’s mentality. He is focused and confident and that should certainly serve him well since he and his wife, Tina, became owners of Floor Coverings International of Southeast Knoxville.
Forty-one-year-old Robin and Tina are Maryville residents. Born and raised in Germany, Robin has spent the past 25 years as a wealth advisor in the banking and wealth management fields. He first came to the United States as a 15-year-old exchange student attending school in Las Vegas. An accomplished basketball player, he had dreams of playing professionally until a shoulder injury dashed his dreams.
“I never got to fulfill my goal, but I fell in love with the United States,” Haffer said. “I told myself that one day I would make my way back. After more than 15 years as a successful wealth management advisor in multiple countries, I finally had the opportunity to move back to the States. After another 10 years of wealth management in the United States, I knew that I was destined to run my own business.”

FCI is changing the game for those looking to upgrade their homes with new flooring. With their innovative and award-winning customer service tools and unique mobile showroom experience, customers can now view more than 3,000 flooring options in their own home. Launched in August, Floor Coverings International of Southeast Knoxville serves customers throughout Blount, Sevier and Jefferson counties.
Haffer became somewhat disenchanted with his former career when some of the principles that first drew him to the wealth management profession seemed to fall by the wayside. “I always enjoyed helping people, but I realized the industry was losing focus on doing what is right for the customer and instead focusing on profitability,” Haffer said. “I was not able to change this attitude since I was just a number in a big corporation. That’s why I made the choice to be my own boss and continue to focus on what I’m passionate about, and that is people.

“And since I was born and raised in Germany, I would like to call myself a perfectionist. This is where I can make a difference, by serving customers with passion and treating them like family.”
The Design Associates at Floor Coverings International provide personalized assistance in choosing from their extensive collection of flooring styles and materials. The mobile showroom allows clients to see how different options will look with existing furniture, lighting, and paint colors all within the comfort of their home.
Given his past career experience, Haffer believes he can seamlessly transition from advising customers on building wealth to helping them build a beautiful home… starting with their flooring.
“I can continue to consult and advise customers on their needs, but instead of financial needs, I can help with flooring needs,” Haffer said. “Building long-lasting relationships with my customers is my passion and I’m looking forward to visiting with them years down the road and complimenting them on the flooring choices they made with my help.”
Floor Coverings International has already revolutionized the market as it consistently ranks as the No.1 Mobile Flooring Franchise in North America by Entrepreneur Magazine. As projected by Hardware Retailing, home improvement sales are expected to reach $625 billion by 2025 worldwide. The flooring industry is undergoing significant changes and innovations as consumers demand more quality, variety, and sustainability in their flooring choices. According to a recent report by Expert Market Research, the United States flooring market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.50 percent between 2023 and 2028, driven by the increasing population, rapid urbanization, and growing investments in renovations and remodeling of infrastructures.
“Floors are a necessity,” Haffer said. “There are a lot of things people buy that they don’t need, but everyone needs floors at some point.”
According to the latest figures, there are more than 5.5 million family businesses in the United States and family-owned businesses contribute to 57 percent of the GDP and employ 63 percent of the workforce. Haffer said Tina was always supportive of the couple launching a family-run business.
“My wife always had trust in me,” Haffer said. “When I asked her if we should take this leap of faith, her response was, ‘So far, everything you have touched has turned into something beautiful. Go for it! It will be amazing!”
