No injuries reported after tree falls through West Knoxville home with several people inside (wbir.com) — Several family members in a West Knoxville home on Nubbin Ridge Drive escaped injury after a neighbor’s tree crashed through their roof and kids’ playroom, heavily damaging an upstairs bedroom. The homeowner says they’d long worried about the leaning tree and hopes this close call pushes Knoxville residents to inspect aging trees and take preventive action before winter winds hit.
   

2. Heroic Officer Saves Suicidal Woman From Fatal Leap, Dramatic Video (tmz.com) — A Tennessee Highway Patrol officer helped save a woman from jumping off the Holston River Bridge in Knoxville the day after Christmas, pulling her back from the ledge in a dramatic, captured-on-video rescue. Officials used the incident to remind Knoxville-area residents that holiday stress and loneliness are common and that confidential help is available anytime by calling or texting 988.
   

3. East TN restaurateur Chad Kennedy dies (wbir.com) — Knoxville’s restaurant community is mourning East Tennessee restaurateur Chad Kennedy, whose company operates Loco Burro, Cafe 4, Puckers, and The Kennedy in downtown Knoxville. Kennedy Concepts says the restaurants will continue operating as usual while more details about memorial arrangements are expected soon.
   

4. East Tennesseans return to classrooms with financial aid from Tennessee Reconnect (wate.com) — Knoxville adults heading back to school are getting crucial help from Tennessee Reconnect, with a new University of Tennessee, Knoxville report showing the program boosts completion rates for nontraditional students. A Knoxville nurse practitioner student at South College says the last-dollar scholarship makes her degree possible, while college officials urge more eligible residents to apply for grants and partner-funded aid.
   

5. Knox Webb advances to The Classic at Tennessee High semis (timesnews.net) — Knoxville hoops fans saw Webb School of Knoxville roll into The Classic semifinals after a dominant win over Olympia, led by Cam Swearengen’s 20 points. The roundup also highlights Bearden’s narrow loss to St. Thomas Aquinas and Powell’s big home win over West Ridge in Knoxville, plus several other regional tournament matchups.
