Apartment rent prices in Knoxville declined year over year in November (knoxnews.com) — Knoxville renters are seeing some relief, with median apartment prices down 14% from last year to about $1,585 in November, though still slightly up from October. Local rents now sit 4% above the Tennessee median but 16% below the national median, with detailed shifts for one- and two-bedroom units.
   

2. Knoxville community checking in on senior population amid frigid temperatures (wate.com) — With dangerously cold weather in Knoxville, Mobile Meals volunteers are checking on homebound seniors to ensure they’re warm, healthy, and connected. The Knoxville-Knox County CAC is also linking older adults to energy assistance and urging more volunteers and neighbors to look in on vulnerable seniors this winter.
   

3. Beloved cartoonist brings holiday joy to patients at East Tennessee Children's Hospital (wbir.com) — At East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville, 96-year-old cartoonist Charlie Daniel and fellow artist Brad Boring are once again brightening young patients’ holidays with personalized drawings. Their decade-long tradition brings comfort, distraction, and laughter to families facing serious illness, while celebrating Daniel’s lasting impact as a beloved News Sentinel cartoonist.
   

4. Future of Bower Field uncertain as housing development moves forward in South Knox County (wbir.com) — Neighbors in South Knoxville are worried that Bower Field, a longtime community ballpark, may disappear as a large housing development moves forward on and around the site. County leaders have promised a replacement field on donated land, but residents and their commissioner say plans, funding, and even the suitability of the new site remain unclear.
   

5. Rural Metro: Three pets killed in Powell mobile home fire (wate.com) — A mobile home fire in Powell, just outside Knoxville, left three pets dead while the residents and two other animals escaped safely. Rural Metro Fire crews contained the blaze without it spreading to nearby homes, briefly closed Clinton Highway to access a hydrant, and are reminding neighbors to avoid overloading outlets with heaters and holiday lights as cold weather settles in.
