Knoxville Botanical Garden celebrates repairs to Howell Family Home (knoxfocus.com) — Knoxville residents can now enjoy a restored Howell Family Home at the Knoxville Botanical Garden, after the city and local partners completed Phase 1 renovations to the historic visitor center. A major city grant, matched by nonprofit and private donations, repaired critical roof, water, and structural damage, helping preserve this East Knoxville landmark that hosts year-round community events.
   

2. Man charged after fatal hit-and-run in Knoxville (wate.com) — Knoxville police say a motorcyclist died after a hit-and-run crash Saturday afternoon at Clinton Highway and Bradshaw Garden Road, and a 57-year-old man is now facing serious charges. Investigators tracked a suspected minivan to an apartment complex on Mystic River Way, identified the driver, and took him into custody while the case remains under investigation.
   

3. Here's how The Tennessean reported on state's opioid crisis (tennessean.com subscription) — State officials are working with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville to give counties clearer guidance on how to use millions in opioid settlement dollars, aiming for more transparency and oversight next year. A statewide review found overdose deaths dropping but county responses uneven, with some communities making strong progress and others struggling to even spend the funds.
   

4. Federal judge flip-flops on jailing Maryville man over immigration (knoxnews.com) — A Maryville man with legal immigration status is being held at Knox County’s detention facility after ICE agents arrested him at a Hardin Valley construction site, despite a federal judge’s initial order for his release. His case, now set for a Dec. 18 hearing, is raising sharp criticism from immigrant-rights advocates in Knoxville who argue federal officials are overstepping their authority.
