Teen organization gives back to Westwood community (wreg.com) — Westwood teens in Memphis are spending their weekends distributing food and support to neighbors through their youth-led group, Youth Minds United. The 16-year-old founders want to build youth power across Memphis, urging peers to engage elected officials and community leaders. Their efforts have already drawn backing from the mayor’s office and local organizations.
   

2. Memphis mothers share grief of losing loved ones to violence (fox13memphis.com) — Several Memphis mothers who lost children to violence are leaning on each other for support while pressing Memphis police for answers they feel haven’t come. Their group, The Hands of Rozay, now channels grief into action, including giving toys to nearly 40 children who’ve also lost parents to violence. The women say they’re determined to keep pushing for justice.
   

3. Man arrested, charged with attempted murder for Midtown shooting, MPD says (fox13memphis.com) — A man driving away from suspects who’d been sitting in his car was shot early Saturday in Midtown Memphis, near the Bayou Grill on Madison, police said. MPD later detained three men, recovered guns from two, and charged 22-year-old Jose Osorio, while the wounded driver’s condition was upgraded from critical to non-critical.

THE BREAKDOWN: Two deadly EF-2 tornadoes of December 21, 2013 (actionnews5.com) — A look back at December 21, 2013 recalls how record-warm air in Memphis helped fuel two deadly EF-2 tornadoes elsewhere in the Mid-South just days before Christmas. The story revisits the lives lost, the damage to mobile homes and a school, and asks residents what they remember from that dangerous day.
   

5. 2 occupants walk away after plane makes emergency landing on Highway 65 (sgfcitizen.org) — A small private plane that took off from Memphis made an emergency landing on Highway 65 near Springfield, Missouri, but both people on board escaped serious injury. Troopers say the aircraft experienced engine trouble while heading to Kansas and briefly caught fire after touching down on the highway. Traffic was cleared and the road reopened within a few hours.
