1,004 Ozzi Boxes in 2024: Sustainable Dining at Belmont University
Belmont University students have made strides toward sustainability by using 1,004 Ozzi to-go boxes in 2024

Belmont University students have made strides toward sustainability by using 1,004 Ozzi to-go boxes in 2024, an initiative that began in the Spring of 2022 to reduce waste on campus. These reusable containers provide an eco-friendly alternative to single-use packaging and are available at the university’s Dining Hall throughout the year.
The Ozzi to-go boxes were introduced to provide a sustainable to-go option for students in the Dining Hall. Freshmen and transfer students can obtain their box for free, while returning students can purchase one for a small fee. Once a student has a box, they can use it, return it to the receptacle, and receive a token proving they dropped off a dirty box. The token can then be exchanged at the register for a clean container.
OZZI reusable to-go containers are more beneficial to both the user and the environment than compostable or recyclable options, as they significantly reduce waste and emissions. They are an essential step in achieving the ultimate goal of a zero-waste society.
