Brutal Cold, Dangerous Wind Chills Ring In Nashville New Year

A wind chill advisory is in effect for Middle Tennessee for the better part of the first two days of 2018.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Bitterly cold air and gusty winds will combine to drive wind chills below zero for most of the first two days of 2018, according to the National Weather Service office in Nashville.

A wind chill advisory is in effect between 10 p.m. New Year's Eve through 9 a.m. New Year's Day and then again from midnight Jan. 2 through noon.

"The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin. Expect wind chills to range from zero to 8 below zero for all of Middle Tennessee," the NWS office wrote. "A wind chill advisory means that cold air and the wind will combine to create low wind chills. Frost bite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves."

High temperatures are expected to be at or below freezing through at least Friday.
