NASHVILLE — Rapper-turned-country singer Jelly Roll took home three awards at the CMT Music Awards on Sunday, making him the night's big winner. The performer got emotional during his speech as he thanked the country radio industry for accepting him.

The award show, which was televised in Austin, Texas on CBS relied heavily on nostalgia as Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette and Gwen Stefani took to the stage to perform some of their old hits. Twain was even awarded the Equal Play Award, recognizing her for being a “visible and vocal advocate” for diverse voices in country music. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion was even on hand to present the country singer with the accolade.

Lainey Wilson and co-host Kane Brown were other big winners of the night. The latter taking home the award for video of the year for his duet "Thank God" in which he sings with wife Katelyn Brown.
