  1. Parents at Covenant School — the site of a deadly shooting in March that killed three students and three adults — have asked the court to not release the shooter's writings. A 20-page document filed on behalf of the parents argues that the writings could inspire future violence and that the victims' constitutional right to be free from abuse and intimidation surpasses the public's right to disclosure. The parties who are petitioning for the documents' release, including Clata Renee Brewers of the National Police Association and the Tennessee Firearms Association, aim to learn why the shooter committed the attack. (WSMV)
  2. A Nashville man is on a mission to plant trees throughout the city's neighborhoods. Sometimes known as "the Tree Ninja," Thomas Solinsky has planted over 40,000 trees throughout Tennessee and the surrounding states over the past 15 years. Trees can help mitigate urban heat, absorb greenhouse gasses, and help with stormwater drainage. Solinsky calls his tree-planting project SoundForest, and he relies on donations and volunteer assistance to plant trees throughout the city. (Nashville Scene)
  3. As temperatures creep up into the 90s this week, the Nashville Fire Department and the Nashville Office of Emergency Management have shared tips to stay safe in the heat. The agencies are reminding people to never leave children or infants in cars, even if the engine is running or the windows are cracked. For older adults, the agencies recommend staying inside an air-conditioned building on hot days as much as possible and taking shelter at a library or community center if air conditioning isn't available at home. Older adults can also check with their doctors to see if they are more vulnerable to heat due to prescription medications or medical conditions. (WKRN)
