Cyclist Dead In Bordeaux Hit And Run

A woman walking her bike on Clarksville Pike was hit by a passing car early Monday morning died and the alleged driver arrested.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Metro Police arrested a 62-year-old woman Monday in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a 24-year-old cyclist.

According to Metro Police, around 3:15 Monday morning, Courtney Barnes and her boyfriend were walking their bikes on the sidewalk of Clarksville Pike near the intersection with Buena Vista Pike. Barnes was walking across the road when she was hit by an older model white Chevrolet Impala, which then sped away.

The boyfriend flagged down passing cars for help, witnesses told police, and Barnes was taken to the hospital where she died later Monday.

Investigators say they identified Mary Celestine as the driver of the Impala after a coworker noticed her car had front-end damage consistent with hitting a pedestrian. Celestine is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death and failure to render aid.
