Dad Killed On TN Interstate While Searching For Child's Toy

The man was traveling with his family on I-65 southbound Thursday when his child threw their favorite toy out of the window, police said.

NASHVILLE, TN — A Tennessee dad was killed Thursday night when he was hit by a car while looking for his child's toy on Interstate 65, according to police.

Joshua Thomas Taylor, 32, was traveling with his family on I-65 southbound earlier Thursday when his child threw their favorite toy out of the window, police said. Taylor returned to the area just before 9 p.m., parked his car at the Harding Place ramp and walked along the interstate while searching for the toy, police said.

Tennessee Department of Transportation HELP truck drivers found Taylor during his search and tried talking to him, police said, but Taylor ran across the interstate and jumped over the barrier to the northbound side.

According to police, HELP truck drivers immediately started to move to the opposite side of the interstate when they heard a collision.

Taylor was struck by a GMC Yukon, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, the Yukon's driver remained on scene and did not appear to be impaired. Police said speed also was not a factor in the crash.
