Family Rescued After Kayaks Overturn Near Percy Priest Dam

A family of four was saved after their kayaks flipped near Percy Priest Dam Saturday night.

NASHVILLE, TN -- A family of four survived a harrowing evening on the lake Saturday, as they were saved after flipping their kayaks near Percy Priest Dam.

Rescuers said the family was kayaking on the Stones River side of the dam around 6 p.m. when the dam began generating power, causing rough water that flipped the boats.

The two kayaks were inundated with water, but all four members of the family and the watercraft were all pulled to shore by Nashville Fire Department crews.
