Mad About Food, Nashville Jail Inmate Attacks Guard: Police

A 29-year-old inmate at the Davidson County Jail allegedly upset about the quality of food attacked a guard, police say.

NASHVILLE, TN -- A Davidson County jail inmate, apparently mad about the quality of meals he was being served, became unruly and attacked a guard.

According to an affidavit, Cody Murphy, 29, was complaining about food at the facility March 20 and began threatening a guard. Another guard, in an effort at calming the situation, came between the two.

The second officer told Murphy to turn around but Murphy "refused and proceeded to get in a fighting stance and bounce back and forth," according to the police report.

The guards say Murphy continued resisting and was eventually pepper-sprayed, but during the struggle, he pushed a guard into an open door, splitting the guard's head. That guard required stitches.

Murphy, already jailed after an aggravated robbery conviction, faces a charge of assault on an officer causing injury.
