- Nashville's Mayor John Cooper is hoping to pass a new deal with Speedway Motorsports that would bring NASCAR to The Fairgrounds before his term in office comes to a close. This proposal narrowly passed the Fair Commission in March due to vocal opposition, but for the deal to officially pass this term, the mayor will need three required readings throughout the next four Metro Council meetings taking place mid-summer. According to the mayor's office and Speedway Motorsports, this deal has been described as a strong investment for the city of Nashville. (Nashville Post)
- Five Metro Nashville Police officers were honored for their efforts while responding to the tragic shooting at The Covenant School. Each of the officers received the National Award of Valor from the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) for their acts of courage and valor beyond what would normally be expected of them. The officers receiving this high recognition include Officer Rex Engelbert, Detective Michael Collazo, Sergeant Jeff Mathis, Detective Zachary Please, and Detective Ryan Cagle. (WZTV)
- The Nashville Fire Department's investigation of a resident who was hospitalized as a result of a house fire close by in Antioch is officially ongoing. According to reports, firefighters were able to contain the house fire, but one resident did suffer from severe burns that required immediate medical attention. Currently, the American Red Cross is helping to assist any residents who have been displaced and investigators are looking into a potential cause for the fire. (WSMV)
