The Manager of Applied Research develops, organizes, implements, and uses data and systems for a wide array of high-impact research studies and reports used in the Nashville region by businesses, elected and government officials , and other community stakeholders. Research involves a broad cross-section of demographic, economic, and community topics and various research processes, methods, sources, and tools. The Manager of Applied Research interacts daily with internal and external customers to provide the highest quality research that demonstrates rigor, ingenuity, and innovation.

This position leads specific projects and tasks within the Chamber’s Research Center, managing research methods and teams to achieve success in defined outcomes for projects outlined in the Research Center’s work plan or on projects assigned by the VP of Research. The Manager of Applied Research is charged with consistently achieving superior, actionable research that fulfills the Chamber’s mission and is presented in a distilled manner to topline findings and is accessible and engaging.

The Manager of Applied Research contributes to developing, implementing, and evaluating a robust work plan of diverse research products to serve Chamber members and staff and further enhance the Chamber’s economic development, talent, growth, and policy work. The Manager of Applied Research may be accountable for project management on specific projects, bringing projects to a successful conclusion on time and within budget.

This position forges research partnerships, strengthens research opportunities, and cultivates research innovations internally and externally. In interactions with external peers and partners, the Manager of Applied Research will consistently represent the organization as a leader in research and be a liaison to emerging research opportunities and collaborations.

Under the guidance of the VP of Research, the Manager of Applied Research grows their understanding of, and skills in, the clever and successful use of critical data sets, essential tools, methodology, and customer relations.

In collaboration with the VP, Member Value, and various departments across the organization, the Director, Small Business and Growth Initiatives will serve as the staff lead for the content development, implementation, and management of Business Studio, Nashpreneurs Conference, and Happy Hours, the Small and Diverse Business Forum, Small Business Committee, Hospitality Link industry initiative, Music Industry Initiative and other small business programs as assigned. The Director, Small Business and Growth Initiatives, will ensure these programs meet the annual strategic plan and budget objectives.

In collaboration with the VP, Member Value, and various departments across the organization, the Manager, Member Value, will serve as the staff lead for the day-to-day execution of strategies and tactics of the chamber’s six area advisory councils and other member value programs assigned. The position is directly responsible for developing and implementing programming for these six geographical areas to include: Downtown Connect and Chambers; East, Midtown, North, South, and West, which ultimately results in the attraction, growth, development; and retention of businesses in the membership of the Nashville Area Chamber.
