Here are the top three stories today in Nashville:

  1. On Apr. 18, demonstrators locked arms and held hands in a three-mile human chain from the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt to the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville to advocate for gun safety and common sense gun laws. The human chain, made of many Nashville locals and Covenant School families, ran along 21st Avenue South in Nashville. View the link to see pictures from the demonstration. (Tennessean)
  2. Today, Apr. 20, the National Weather Service in Nashville has issued a Fire Weather Watch from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for all of Middle Tennessee and pieces of Southern Kentucky. The warning is due to low humidity and southerly winds up to 15 miles per hour with gusts around 30 miles per hour. (News Channel)
  3. Nashville Metro Police are investigating an incident in which a woman was shot in the foot while washing dishes on Tuesday night, Apr. 18. Just before 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the 2400 block of Herman Street and discovered the woman, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators are unsure if the shooting was targeted or if the woman was struck by a stray bullet. (WKRN)

  • The DEA issued a public health alert due to an animal drug named Xylazine, also called "tranq," becoming more common in all regions of the country, including Nashville. It is contributing to the overdose epidemic and necrosis, which is the rotting of human tissue that may lead to amputation. (WKRN News 2)
