Nashville Mayor's Race: Rep. Harold Love Jr. Announces Candidacy
State Rep. Harold Love Jr. is the latest to mount a challenge to become Metro Mayor.
NASHVILLE, TN -- State Rep. Harold Love Jr., a Democrat who represents North Nashville, is running for Metro Nashville Mayor.
Love, minister of Lee's Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, has served five years in the legislature. His father, Harold Love Sr., was a Metro councilman and also served in the House.
Love has also qualified to run for State House. The Democratic primary for that seat is August 2, the same date the mayor's race is currently set. Winning that primary is tantamount to election in the heavily Democratic district.

The qualifying deadline was Thursday at noon and qualifiers have a week to withdraw before the ballot is set.
Other announced candidates include Mayor David Briley, Metro Councilman Erica Gilmore, conservative talk-radio host Ralph Bristol, controversial former Vanderbilt professor Carol Swain, former Metro Councilman Roy Dale and activist jeff obafemi carr.
