Here are the top three stories in Nashville today:
- Several Tennessee lawmakers are pushing proposals that would shift control of Nashville's airport and Sports Authority Board to the state and take away the Metro Beer Board, leading some to call it a hostile takeover of the city. Some lawmakers believe the state is trying to consolidate power under one party, while others deny the claims and say the conversation has been ongoing for years. (WZTV)
- Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee is advocating for a bill that would dissolve an independent state agency that exposed problems with the state's foster care system, a move that some claim would make it difficult to monitor the welfare of children. The proposed legislation, House Bill 0330, would put the commission's responsibilities under other government agencies that look into improving child welfare, such as the Department of Children's Services. The commission's latest report found that Tennessee has the highest number of children who are repeatedly moved to different foster homes. (WKRN News 2)
- Plans for a new Costco wholesale store have been submitted in nearby Mt. Juliet, seeking approval for a space of over 160,000 square feet. The proposed location for the store is nearly 20 acres at the corner of Legacy Pointe Boulevard and Rutland Drive, and it is estimated that the store would bring 275 jobs to Wilson County. Costco representatives have confirmed the plan and the development still has to be approved by the city commission. (Tennessean)
