  1. An antitrust case began this week in Nashville's federal court that could have a national impact. The case centers around landlords' and property managers' use of an algorithm to set rent prices. Plaintiffs argue that using the algorithm created by software company RealPage has resulted in higher rents and an artificially lower housing supply. They say that using the algorithm amounts to price fixing or collusion. The lawsuit follows an investigation by the Department of Justice. (WPLN)
  2. A new proposed city ordinance seeks to manage commercial building waste with recycling. The city has outlined a five-year plan for commercial construction and demolition that would create recycling minimums, require documentation of recycling rates, and require materials to be weighed. Recycling construction materials reduces the impact on landfill space and reduces disposal costs. The public can comment on the proposed ordinance here. (WPLN)
  3. Nashville's Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) recently waived adoption fees for animals at the shelter, but the shelter remains at capacity with over 80 dogs and cats waiting to be adopted. The summer months typically see an increase in the rate of animal surrenders. Adoption isn't the only way to help out, the shelter is also seeking foster families for pets. MACC provides families with food, medication, and supplies for the foster dog or cat. If you're interested in adopting an animal from a foster family, email foster.macc@nashville.gov. (WKRN)
