Rescues, Wrecks Result From Midstate Floods

Near-constant rain forced rivers and creeks throughout Middle Tennessee over their banks, leading to rescues and wrecks.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Three to five inches of rain fell across Middle Tennessee Friday and Saturday, prompting flood advisories and warnings as creeks and rivers strained their banks.

The Harpeth River in Franklin crested around 6 p.m. Saturday just short of action stage, but by that time had risen 15 feet in 36 hours. The Cumberland River in downtown Nashville was expected to crest at noon Sunday at nearly 32 feet, two feet above action stage and a 10-foot rise in a day and a half.

Early Saturday morning, Franklin Police rescued a woman whose car was being swept away by flood waters on Eastern Flank Circle. Saturday afternoon, another man was trapped in his car by rising water on Temple Road.

An overturned truck was found in the waters of Ewing Creek in Nashville near the Briley Parkway/Whites Creek Pike intersection late Friday night.

A chance of showers will persist through Sunday, with perhaps a slight chance of snow as temperatures drop. Things will dry out for the early part of the week.
