Severe Storms Likely Across Middle Tennessee Tuesday

Hail, straight-line winds and possibly a few tornadoes could strike Middle Tennessee Tuesday afternoon into the evening.

NASHVILLE, TN -- A storm system stretching from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast could cause significant severe storms in Middle Tennessee Tuesday.

High temperatures will climb to near 80 during the day Tuesday with some storms possible Tuesday afternoon before the main line pushes into the area Tuesday evening. Winds will be strong ahead of the storms, with steady 15 to 25 mph winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

The primary threat will be straight-line winds and hail, but meteorologists with the National Weather Service cannot rule out spin-up tornadoes, particularly northwest of Nashville.

Storms are likely to be stronger generally northwest, weakening to the southeast.

So strong is the front associated with the storms that after unseasonably warm temperatures Tuesday, lows will plunge to freezing Wednesday night with frost likely Thursday morning and some models suggesting, yes, even snow Friday.
