Winter's Last Gasp? Middle Tennessee May See Sleet, Snow

A burst of frozen precipitation is likely late Friday into Saturday morning in Middle Tennessee, with widespread frost into Sunday.

OLD HICKORY, TN -- Winter just won't give up.

As Middle Tennesseans celebrates the Predators' success on the ice, they may wake up Saturday to find ice has been a late-season success itself.

The National Weather Service says a front pushing to the southeast will bring chilly temperatures and, with plenty of moisture lingering, there's a good chance of a rain, sleet and snow mixture, with some light accumulations along the Highland Rim and near the Kentucky border by Saturday morning.

Things won't warm up much Saturday as clouds clear out and will downright crisp Saturday night.

"Temperatures (Saturday) afternoon will sluggishly rise into the 40`s, and with blustery winds, wind chill
values will remain in the 20`s and 30`s throughout the day. Skies will clear out by Saturday evening most areas, and this will enable temperatures to bottom out in the mid and upper 20`s Saturday night. Will therefore mention widespread frost in the forecast," Friday afternoon's forecast discussion reads, in part.

Thankfully, this looks to be winter's final punch. Highs are expected back in the 60s by Monday and up into the 70s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

But it could be worse: on April 6, 1971, more than an inch of snow fell in Nashville.
