TCU Dining celebrates World Food Day with global flavors

In celebration of World Food Day, the dining team at Texas Christian University (TCU) hosts an annual event featuring international cuisine

In celebration of World Food Day month, the dining team at Texas Christian University (TCU) hosts an annual event featuring international cuisine.

This year, TCU Dining partnered with The Intercultural Center on campus, the TCU Vietnamese Student Association, and the TCU Korean Language & Culture Association (KLCA) to collaborate on menus and student engagement ideas.

The partnership resulted in the successful execution of international food station takeovers at Market Square and the allergen-free kitchen Magnolias Zero7 on October 25, featuring cuisines from Vietnam, Korea, Mexico, Jamaica, Spain, and Greece.

"The KLCA had a great time working with Sodexo,” said Bryce Hopper, a junior at TCU majoring in Business Information Systems and Finance, and a co-founder of KLCA. “It was a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with the school and represent Korean cuisine to the TCU community. We are very thankful Sodexo considered the KLCA as a partner for World Food Day and we hope to collaborate again in the future."

“Students love trying new, innovative international dishes,” said Marketing Director Katelyn McPherson. “We will be doing this event again next year featuring a new variety of cultures.”

A meal swipe event, students were able to try Korean dishes including Bulgogi, Tteok-Bokki, and Kimchi fried rice; Pho Noodles from Vietnam; Gazpacho Shooters, Patatas Bravas, and Albondigas from Spain; jerk chicken, steamed cabbage, rice and peas, and fried plantains from Jamaica; baked fish with tomatoes and onions, Briam, and vegetarian spaghetti from Greece; and healthy chicken posole from Mexico.

“Some international students invited their professors and families to join this event,” said McPherson. “It was really special seeing students’ eyes light up when they experienced their culture being represented.”
