TCU Wellness Fair Connects Students to Essential Resources

Texas Christian University (TCU) Dining provided by Sodexo hosted a multi-departmental wellness fair to promote student resources

Texas Christian University (TCU) Dining provided by Sodexo hosted a multi-departmental wellness fair to promote student resources for health and wellness on campus and in the Fort Worth community.

Students face many challenges during college, including academically rigorous classes, various extracurricular involvements, and learning how to be financially and personally independent. First-year students have additional unique challenges including homesickness, making new friends, navigating campus life, and finding a place in their new community. The Wellness Fair was created to address these challenges and to connect students to a safety net of resources during one of the most challenging transitions of their lives.

Coordinated by their Campus Dietitian Maddie Jacobs, MS, RD, LD, the multi-departmental wellness fair included TCU’s Counseling and Mental Health Center; Campus Recreation and Wellness Promotion; Substance Use and Recovery Services; Campus Advocacy, Resources & Education; and the Brown-Lupton Health Center.

The Eating Recovery Center, which offers an Intensive Outpatient Program for students with eating disorders at TCU, participated to raise awareness and to connect with students in need of their services. Community partners also included outside organizations such as Orange Theory Fitness, Flower Child Restaurant, and CorePower Yoga raffling free classes, gift cards, and merchandise to help connect students to health and wellness resources in the community.

“The purpose of this Wellness Fair was to empower students to take charge of their own health by featuring the diverse support system of health and wellness resources on and off campus,” said Jacobs. “Our event encouraged holistic wellness by connecting students to resources for physical, mental, and emotional health in one place.”

With over a hundred students in attendance and positive feedback, Jacobs plans to host additional wellness fairs each semester. She is also currently planning other health and wellness events for the remainder of this semester, including a post-workout snack box event and healthy cooking classes.
