Child Passenger Safety Week Underscores Importance Of Car Seats

Cedar Park reminds its residents about the importance of using the right car seat, booster, and seat belt for child passengers.

CEDAR PARK, TX — It's estimated every 32 seconds, one child under the age of 13 in a passenger vehicle is involved in a crash. With proper use of car seats, booster, and seat belts, many injuries and deaths may be prevented. In observance of Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 15 - 21) and National Seat Check Saturday (Sept. 21), Cedar Park reminds families to ensure child passengers are safely secured.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website offers car seat recommendations based on child's age and height requirements and a list of recalled products. Parents and caregivers also are able to use the Used Car Seat Safety Checklist to identify factors that may prevent you from using a second-hand car seats.

In addition to NHTSA resources, Williamson County's team of Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians and two Instructors conduct monthly events at locations throughout the county. Seats are inspected for integrity, recalls, expiration and height/weight compatibility based on the child using it. Technicians and instructors also ensure proper insulation and assist parents and caregivers in proper use and installation. For more information, please call 512-943-1264 or click HERE.
