Leander ISD Launches Community Forums On Equity And Diversity

LEANDER, TX — In an effort to listen and learn more about the communities served within the Leander ISD, the district will launch its Community Conversations on Equity and Diversity with two community forums scheduled for the month of March.

On Tuesday, March 3 and Monday, March 9 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., the Leander ISD community is invited to the meetings led by two college professors with extensive experience fostering equity in public schools, and open the conversation to ways of improving engagement within the community. LISD has a commitment toward learning about ways of implementing equitable practices, and invites student, parent and community voices to be heard as part of these forums.

Two professors will facilitate these conversations:

• Dr. Cherie Dawson-Edwards is Chair and an associate professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Louisville. She also serves on the statewide Subcommittee for Equity and Justice for All Youth.
• Dr. Bradley Carpenter is currently an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at Baylor University. His focus is on the Development of Equity-Minded School Leaders.

Community Conversations on Equity and Diversity will offer learning by attendees through shared stories, and encourage collaboration on next steps to bring about changes and improvement. To learn more about Leander ISD and their upcoming community forums, click HERE.
