  1. Tiesa Hollaway, the executive director of Hill Country Community Ministries, a Leander-based nonprofit, said, "We've never run out of fans [before], but we ran out a couple of weeks ago. We still have families that don't have air conditioning in our county." The non-profit is seeking fan donations to help those in need. Hill Country Community Ministries helps families in Leander, Cedar Park, Liberty Hill, Lago Vista, and Northwest Austin. Williamson County does not have cooling centers despite the record-breaking, triple-digit temperatures this summer. (Austin American Statesman)
  2. On Saturday, Jul. 23, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, Leander Police Department, Leander Fire Department, Cedar Park Fire Department, and others helped with evacuations, road closures, and putting out a 500-acre wildfire in Williamson County. The fire started on Tower Road east of Liberty Hill. The fire is being called the "San Gabriel" fire by the Texas A&M Forest Service. Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell is looking to add further restrictions to the burn ban that is already in place in the county. (CBS Austin)
  3. Results from the four-day Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite tournament held on the St. Lawrence River were released. Clark Wendlandt, of Leander, came in ninth place in the final top 10, with 20 bass and a total weight of 92 pounds and 4 ounces. Clark won $16,000 for his impressive catch. (The Advocate)
