Luncheon Spotlights The Risk Factors Of Stroke, Heart Disease

Go Red for Women Luncheon will feature a discussion on women and heart disease, stroke, risk factors, symptoms, and ways to become healthy.

LEANDER, TX — A recent study from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) identifies heart disease as the leading cause of death for women in the United States, accounting for about 1 in every 5 female deaths. Another study by the CDC also illustrated the mortality rate among women who suffer a stroke; nearly 60% of stroke deaths are in women, and stroke kills twice as many women as breast cancer, and it's estimated one in five women in the US will have a stroke in her lifetime.

While the statistics paint a dire picture, it's important for women to recognize the keys to improved health include prevention and education. Understanding symptoms and learning about risk factors, women have better odds of surviving and thriving. Cedar Park Regional Medical Center will host a Go Red for Women Luncheon on Friday, Feb. 7 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The community is invited to an inspiring luncheon, along with an informative talk from Dr. Geoffrey Crimmons, Cardiologist, as well as a first-hand account from a survivor whose life changed, as well as health and wellness visits from vendors.

Attendees are encouraged to wear red, and learn about the steps needed for greater health. Doors open at 11 a.m., and there will be heart-healthy information available on topics including general wellness, diet and exercise.
