More Than 1K Utility Customers Without Power In Cedar Park

More than 1,500 meters have were knocked offline amid falling temperatures and frigid conditions on Thursday, officials reported.

CEDAR PARK, TX — More than 1,000 of utility customers were left without power in Cedar Park on Thursday amid outages spurred by frigid temperatures and icy conditions, officials said.

Pedernales Electric Cooperative issued the report at 3:45 p.m. All told, there were 119 total outages affecting 3,577 meters, utility officials said. The same page alerting to power outages notes the total represents less than 2 percent of the utility's network of 350,958 meters.

A wide swath of Central Texas — including Travis and Williamson counties — is under a "winter weather advisory" until midnight alerting to frigid temperatures and precipitation resulting in icy roadways, making travel treacherous.

The hardest-hit ZIP code is 78613, where 1,308 customers were affected as shown on a Pedernales Cooperative list. The 78058 was a distant second, with 187 customers affected as shown on the list.
