Bobby Vernengo, a 25-year veteran of the city’s police department who was laid to rest Thursday with full honors after complications from surgery. A Life Church service in Leander and a law enforcement procession to Bagdad Cemetery drew colleagues, family, and community members honoring his leadership, mentorship, and long service to Cedar Park. 
2. "Fireball Dropped Straight Down Out Of The Sky": Dazzling Sight Wows North Texans (dallasexpress.com) — Residents in Cedar Park were among nearly 200 people across six states who reported seeing a vivid blue-green fireball streak across the sky Tuesday evening. The American Meteor Society is analyzing the event, which some locals described as the biggest and brightest object they’ve ever seen overhead, possibly tied to early activity from the Geminid meteor shower.
3. Cedar Park High choir director vies for 2026 Grammy Music Educator Award (kvue.com) — Cedar Park High School choir director Lisa Sunset Holt has been named one of just 10 finalists nationwide for the 2026 Grammy Music Educator Award, and the only one from Texas. With more than 20 years of teaching, she’s being honored for her impact on local students and her broader work building community through choral music.
4. Camp Mystic to get new flood warning system ahead of summer (kxan.com) — A Cedar Park-based company, River Sentry, is providing Camp Mystic with a new tower-based flood warning system as the camp prepares to reopen its Cypress Lake site after deadly July 4 floods. The technology aims to give earlier alerts with lights and sirens, while a new state law is also pushing flood-prone counties like Kerr County to install outdoor warning sirens in coming years.
