- A CapMetro train crashed into a large truck near Leander on Friday evening. No riders were on the train at the time of the accident, and both operator of the train and driver of the truck were not injured. An update from CapMetro said, “Our crews have worked to repair the tracks between Leander and Lakeline Stations." For updates on CapMetro repairs, stop by KXAN.
- Leander water customers were moved up to Phase 3 water restrictions amid ongoing water leak repairs. The city asked customers to turn off irrigation systems and instead, water lawns and gardens by hand. Leander Mayor Christine DeLisle said this measure was taken "out of an abundance of caution," forecasting the need for watering lawns more often with warmer weather coming. The cause of the leak is still under investigation, with repairs expected within two to three weeks. KXAN has more on this story.
- Applicants have until the end of this week to submit their sculpture designs for display at the Cedar Park Sculpture Garden. This project will commemorate Cedar Park's 50th anniversary and has a budget of $25,000. Here are some factors that must be included in each proposal: design something that will delight the public, is engaging for all ages, captures the unique history of Cedar Park, and must be made of materials made to withstand outdoor elements long-term. All of the official details and form to apply can be found here. (City of Cedar Park Twitter)
