Short Drive To Longhorn Cavern State Park Offers Spring Break Fun

With Spring Break fast approaching, idyllic Texas nature spots offer the perfect way to enjoy a staycation and explore new adventures.

CEDAR PARK, TX —Want to get away this Spring Break, but looking for something different and exciting to do close to home? There are several options for those looking to enjoy a staycation with the family this season. Patch will feature a series on scenic destinations and nature spots across Texas to explore fun and adventure.

Located just under an hour from Cedar Park, Longhorn Cavern State Park offers nearly 700 acres of rugged Hill Country terrain with a rich history dating back to the 1930's when it was acquired from private ownership from the state and opened to visitors. Designated a National Natural Landmark some forty years later in 1971, Longhorn Cavern State Park is a wonder with its cavern formation from the course of several million years.

Steeped in legend and stories, one account passed on from generations focuses on the outlaw Sam Bass and a plan he carried through of stashing a cache of stolen money somewhere deep within the cavern. While no evidence exists to confirm Bass ever visited the cave, stories like this increase the foot traffic to the popular destination. Nearby cities offer museums, shopping and restaurants:
