Texas Judge Recognizes Common Law Marriage Between Two Women
The same-sex couple had been together for eight years.

A Travis County judge approved an out-of-court settlement that recognizes the longtime relationship between two Austin women as a common law marriage.
The Austin American-Statesman reports that the ruling was part of a settlement over the estate of Stella Powell, who died of cancer last year. Sonemaly Phrasavath, her girlfriend of eight years, was in a court battle with Powell’s family over her estate.
Lawyers said this was the first recognition of a common law marriage for a same-sex couple in Texas.
