Texas PTA Hosts Panel Discussion On Teen Vaping Crisis

CEDAR PARK, TX—Texas PTA, advancing advocacy, family engagement, member programs, while lending PTA support, works to ensure the health and happiness of students across Texas. Statistics indicate an alarming trend of among U.S. students, with vaping at an all-time high among teens. Studies show teens are more likely to use e-cigarettes than cigarettes, and teen e-cig users are more likely to start smoking in adulthood.

With a lack of government oversight for manufacturers to disclose e-cigarette ingredients, and robust marketing campaigns that target youth, the Texas PTA recognizes the vaping crisis must be looked into by our elected officials. For that reason, parents are invited to join Texas PTA in addressing the situation before the start of the 87th Legislative Session in the upcoming year.

Parents, caregivers, and the community are invited to the first ever Straight Talk: A Matter of Life and Breath, a panel discussion among students, parents, and physicians to share stories and talk about what can be done about the vaping epidemic at home, in school, and at the state level. Texas PTA President Sheri Doss and Tanya Edwards, Executive Vice President, SouthWest for the American Heart Association will serve as moderators for this important event.

Texas PTA invites PTA's, families, schools, and all advocates to watch the event LIVE on the Texas PTA Facebook page. Questions will be taken in advance and addressed as time allows. The discussion is scheduled on Tuesday, Feb. 25 beginning at 12 p.m., and will be held at the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce located at 1460 E Whitestone Blvd, Cedar Park, TX 78613.
