Baytown Man Charged In Boating Crash That Killed 3, Injured 2

CHAMBERS COUNTY, TX — A Baytown man is behind bars for his role in a boating accident that left three people dead, and injured seven others on Sunday. According to Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne, 23-year-old Jacob Vernon Breaux is charged with three counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and two counts of intoxication assault and is in the Chambers County Jail with bonds totaling $200,000.

The crashed happened at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday Hugo Park Road, just north of Trinity Bay when a ski boat driven by Breaux, crashed into a bass boat, law enforcement officials reported.

Laura Kay Grant, 48, of Mont Belvieu, and William Robert Bowles, 36, of Baytown were pronounced dead at the scene. Zachary Jackson Miles, 29 of Beach City, was injured in the crash and later died of his injuries at Hermann Memorial Hospital after being flown by helicopter from the scene.

Hawthorne said two people are still hospitalized and are listed in critical condition. The wreck involved 11 people — 5 in the ski boat and 6 in the bass fishing boat.

Officials with Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of the crash.
