Active COVID-19 Cases Fall Below 700 In Montgomery County

The Montgomery County Public Health District announced over 219,000 residents are fully vaccinated. The positive rate stayed at 4 percent.

CONROE, TX — Active cases of COVID-19 have fallen below 700, the Montgomery County Public Health District announced in its weekly update Wednesday.

There are currently 668 active cases in the county, a decrease of 71 from last week's update. This is the lowest in Montgomery County since mid-June 2020, when active cases rose from around 500 to approximately 2,000 in just a month.

MCPHD also announced the positive test rate held steady at 4 percent for the second consecutive week, citing data from the University of Texas School of Public Health.

According to statistics from the Texas Department of State Health Services, 219,106 Montgomery County residents have been fully vaccinated, which represents 43.55 percent of the county's eligible 12-and-older population. In Texas, 47.98 percent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

Also in Wednesday's update, health officials confirmed the death of a Conroe woman in her 60s with COVID-19, bringing to total number of deaths to 328. MCPHD added 197 cases to Montgomery County's tally, bringing the total to 55,405 since the start of the pandemic. There are 48 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the county, a decrease of six since last week, with 18 of those in intensive care.

The county's COVID-19 call center will permanently close June 30. Anyone with questions about the coronavirus or vaccines is encouraged to call (936) 523-3916 until then. The call center is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
