Active COVID-19 Cases, Hospitalizations Up In Montgomery County

Montgomery County Public Health District confirmed 4 deaths in its weekly update, and active cases rose for the first time since mid-March.

CONROE, TX — Hospitalizations rose and active cases of COVID-19 ticked upward in the Montgomery County Public Health District's weekly update Wednesday.

There are 595 active cases of COVID-19 in the county, one more than in the update from June 30. MCPHD also confirmed the deaths of four more people with COVID-19, bringing the county's total to 335. Among those confirmed dead were three men from Willis, in their 40s, 50s and 60s, as well as a woman in her 90s from The Woodlands.

The small rise in active cases is the first time Montgomery County has seen an increase in active cases week over week since March 24.

MCPHD reported there are 42 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the county, an increase of 11 since last week's update, with 11 people in intensive care. MCPHD added 258 cases this week, bringing Montgomery County's total to 55,838 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

The county's positive test rate stayed at 4 percent for the fourth straight week, according to data from the University of Texas School of Public Health.

According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, 232,189 Montgomery County residents have been fully vaccinated with 272,865 receiving at least one dose. Just over 46 percent of county residents have been fully vaccinated, exactly four percentage points below the state rate of 50.16 percent.
