City, Montgomery County Offices Closed For MLK Day

The observance of the slain civil rights leader's birthday as a national holiday was signed into law in 1983.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — Communities all over the nation will honor the memory of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr on his birthday this Monday. That means city, county, state and federal offices will be closed Monday .

The observance of the slain civil rights leader’s birthday as a national holiday was signed into law in 1983, but wasn’t officially observed by most states until 1991.

Along with government offices, schools and school districts will also observe MLK Jr. day in many communities.

Those government offices that will be closed include:

  • Conroe City Hall
  • Willis City Hall
  • Tomball City Hall
  • Montgomery City Hall
  • The Woodlands Township
  • Patton Village
  • Shenandoah City Hall
  • Montgomery County

As expected, mail services will not run and post offices will be closed in observance of the federal holiday.
