The former softball coach was convicted of abuses that occurred over two decades.

Former Montgomery County softball coach Juan Manuel Corona received the max punishment for sexual assaults of minors dating back to 2003.

CONROE, TX — Former softball coach Juan Manuel Corona was sentenced to the maximum punishment for six counts of sexual assault of a child Thursday, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

Corona, 48, was given two life sentences for a pair of convictions on aggravated sexual assault of a child charges and also received twenty years each for three counts of sexual assault of a child and twenty years for one count of sexual performance by a child. Judge Lisa Michalk of the 221st U.S. District Court ordered that Corona must serve each sentence consecutively, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Investigators from the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable's Office found Corona sexually abused four victims beginning in 2003. A 14-year-old girl, who was coached by Corona on a private softball team, came forward in January 2018 and detailed three incidents of sexual assault from 2017.

According to court documents, Corona abused the victim under the guise of helping her deal with soreness and threatened her not to tell anyone. In the original complaint, the victim also stated Corona gave her and another minor alcohol to drink.

Three more victims came forward, detailing incidents from 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2016, court documents show.

"You played the role of a trusted coach ... only knowing what you had in plan all along plotting your next move," said one victim in an impact statement following sentencing, according to the District Attorney. "What matters most is I won today."

Corona filed a notice of appeal and a request for a court-appointed appellate attorney Thursday. In the same filing, Corona's trial counsel, Wendy Baker, requested permission to withdraw as the defendant's attorney of record.
