COVID-19 Active Cases Fall Below 1K In Montgomery County
Four more COVID-19 deaths were confirmed Wednesday. The Montgomery County Public Health District is taking vaccine appointments for Friday.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — Active cases of COVID-19 have fallen below 1,000 in Montgomery County for the first time since June 2020, the Montgomery County Public Health District announced in its now weekly coronavirus update Wednesday.
There are 980 active cases in the county, which is 78 less than in an update Friday, the last day of MCPHD's daily updates. Active coronavirus cases in Montgomery County have fallen nearly every week since peaking in mid-January near 11,000 active cases.
MCPHD announced 226 new cases since Friday, bringing Montgomery County's total to 54,602 since the beginning of the pandemic. Health officials also confirmed the deaths of four more county residents with COVID-19: a Conroe woman in her 40s, a Porter man in his 50s, a Splendora woman in her 70s and a Conroe woman in her 70s. Hospitalizations in the county rose slightly to 53, an increase of six since Friday, with 13 of those in intensive care.

For the second straight week, the positive test rate stayed at 5 percent.
The milestone in active cases comes the day after Montgomery County closed its COVID-19 vaccination hub at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Shenandoah with demand for vaccinations waning.

According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, 190,672 county residents are fully vaccinated, which is 37.9 percent of Montgomery County's eligible population.
MCPHD will administer vaccines at the Public Health Clinic at 1300 S. Loop 336 West on Friday. To schedule an appointment, call (936) 523-5020.
