3 Died In Montgomery County During Winter Storm

In the latest update from the Department of State Health Services, the death toll is up to 210 across Texas.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — The death toll across Texas from February's winter storm continues to rise.

In its fifth update regarding the winter storm that caused millions of Texans to lose power for several days, DSHS raised the number of fatalities to 210 on Tuesday. There are three deaths accounted for in Montgomery County.

In its first update on March 5, DSHS reported 57 deaths related to the storms.

Nearby Harris County has tallied the most deaths in the official count with 43, followed by Travis County with 28 and Dallas County with 20.

At least 62 have died in Houston-area counties as a result of the storm and subsequent power failures.

The majority of confirmed deaths, which occurred between Feb. 11 and March 5, were caused by hypothermia, according to DSHS. Other causes include motor vehicle accidents, carbon monoxide poisoning, exacerbation of chronic illness, falls and fire.

Millions of Texas went without power for days as the statewide grid experienced unprecedented strain during the storms. Boil water notices also were issued in Montgomery County, Harris County and across the state as a result of the storms.
