First Human Case of West Nile Confirmed in Montgomery County

The first human case of the West Nile Virus in 2016 has been confirmed in Montgomery County.

CONROE, TX — The first human case of the West Nile virus in 2016 in Montgomery County has been confirmed. The case is reportedly a man in his early 70s.

West Nile is a mosquito-borne infection with symptoms that may include fever, headaches, fatigue, muscle pain or aches, nausea, loss of apetitie, vomiting and rash. For 80 percent of people infected, West Nile presents no symptoms.

The disease often adversely impacts the elderly, young children and people with compromised immune systems.

The county has not confirmed any cases of any other mosquito related illnesses — such as Zika or St. Louis Encephalitis.
