MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — Montgomery County residents now have a way to reduce the costs of remodeling while also donating to a good cause, thanks to a new service from Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County.

Habitat for Humanity will now offer free deconstruction services to salvage reusable items from both residential and commercial buildings, which will help fund their mission to help families in need build decent, affordable housing.

Instead of homeowners paying expensive fees to have items such as kitchen cabinets, light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, appliances, hardware, HVAC systems, water heaters, furniture, home decor or doors destroyed or thrown away, Habitat for Humanity will bring a deconstruction crew to preserve those items and resell them at ReStore. ReStore, located at 9407 Highway 242 in Conroe, is a nonprofit home improvement resale store and donation center that helps fund Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County’s new home construction and repair programs.

Every donation made through the deconstruction program is tax deductible. A donation can be initiated by emailing deconstruction@habitatmctx.org or by scheduling a free assessment at the Habitat for Humanity Montgomery County website.

“We are excited to launch this signature Habitat program in our community,” said Vicki Johnson, executive director for Habitat Montgomery County, in a news release. “The deconstruction program is another wonderful way for individuals, families, and businesses to partner with Habitat to make a difference for those families needing a hand up, not a handout. The program focuses on reducing waste and recycling quality home goods, appliances, and furnishings, that provide affordable homes and repairs for people needing adequate shelter. It is a win, win for the donor, our environment, and the families that we have the privilege of serving."
