MAGNOLIA, TX — A GoFundMe campaign is raising money for a Magnolia 11-year-old who was struck by a car and thrown approximately 40 feet into a ditch Sunday evening.
Levi Brizuela suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where he underwent surgery, according to the campaign website, which was started by his father, Joe Brizuela. Levi's injuries are no longer life-threatening, but he suffered a fractured pelvis, dislocated elbow and a tension pneumothorax — a build up of pressure in the lungs that can be life-threatening — in addition to several other fractures.
According to the post, the incident occurred at the intersection of Mostyn Road and Community Drive in Magnolia. The post stated the driver didn't have insurance.

Joe Brizuela said Levi returned home Wednesday night. He added Levi was still experiencing concussion symptoms and was dealing with knee ligament issues. Levi had his heel pad re-attached, and as it is a high-use area, there is a higher risk of infection as it heals. Brizuela also is concerned about possible long-term effects from post traumatic stress disorder and said Levi was experiencing nightmares related to the incident.

The accident will force Levi, who attends Bear Branch Intermediate School, to miss football season with the Magnolia Youth Football Association.
Joe Brizuela, who is a deputy in the Harris County Sheriff's Office, said he has been in contact with Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley and the Precinct 2 Constable's Office trying to get more traffic resources for the area near the intersection of Mostyn Road and Community Drive, both of which connect to FM 1488 nearby.
Brizuela is hoping to get a four-way stop sign placed at the intersection as well as a stronger constable patrol presence in the area.
The GoFundMe campaign has raised $3,380 as of Thursday afternoon after being listed for two days. Click here to donate.
"People told us, 'We want a centralized place to help,' and this is the first time I've made one of these," Joe Brizuela said. "We were just blown away by how much the people of Magnolia and Houston wanted to help."
