Montgomery County Police Officers Are Suing Tesla Over February Crash

The lawsuit seeks over $1 million for damages stemming from a February incident in which a Tesla using Autopilot crashed into patrol cars.

SPLENDORA, TX — Tesla has been named in a lawsuit filed seven months after an accident involving a Tesla Model X injured five law enforcement officers in Splendora.

The lawsuit was filed Monday and accuses Tesla and CEO Elon Musk of knowing about safety issues pertaining to the company's Autopilot feature, particularly a failure to recognize flashing lights, but failing to address those problems.

The lawsuit states a Tesla Model X using the Autopilot feature crashed into patrol vehicles during a traffic stop in the early hours of Feb. 27, badly injuring the five officers as well as the civilian involved in the traffic stop.
