Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park & Mission: Remember

Located in Conroe, the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park stands as a powerful tribute to local heroes’ courage and sacrifice. Spanning seven acres, the park features The Line — a striking monument etched with the names of veterans from all conflicts.

Through the Mission: Remember initiative, the Montgomery County Veterans Commission interviews local veterans and preserves their stories for future generations. These firsthand accounts are incorporated into the educational exhibits at the park, ensuring the voices of those who served continue to inspire. (Read more at missionremember.us)

Operation Silver: Honoring WWII and Korean War Veterans

The Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Commission's Operation Silver program seeks to recognize the rapidly dwindling population of World War II and Korean War veterans. Teaching Patriotism: Conroe ISD’s Tribute to Veterans

Conroe Independent School District (CISD) annually hosts a "Salute to Our Veterans" ceremony, uniting students, veterans and community members to honor those who have served. The 2024 event featured performances by the Caney Creek High School Choir and a military Pass in Review by JROTC units from multiple high schools. Dr. Ted Landry, principal of The Woodlands High School and a Marine Corps veteran, delivered remarks emphasizing the importance of honoring all veterans. Two Centuries of Service: Honoring Local WWII Veterans at 106 & 103

On September 15, 2024, during the Houston Texans' home opener against the Chicago Bears, Montgomery County residents and World War II veterans Bob Putnam, 106, and George Waters, 103, were honored on the field at NRG Stadium. Escorted by family members, they were presented with commemorative game balls inscribed with their names and branches of service.

Mr. Putnam served in the U.S. Navy on destroyers in the Mediterranean Sea, while Mr. Waters was a B-17 ball turret gunner who was shot down over Germany and held as a prisoner of war for 15 months. (Read more at The Courier of Montgomery County)
