Lake Conroe To Reopen After Friday's Heavy Rain Forced Closure

Officials warned of submerged objects and floating debris and closed Lake Conroe hours after storms dumped nearly 5 inches of rain.

LAKE CONROE, TX — Officials in Montgomery County announced Monday they will reopen Lake Conroe to boaters, three days after severe weather closed the lake over the weekend.

Officials in Montgomery County closed Lake Conroe to boaters on Saturday, a day after heavy rains pummeled areas north of the Houston area, and caused widespread flooding.

Officials said that due to high lake levels, the presence of submerged objects, floating debris, and other hazards that could put people’s safety at risk.Heavy rain began slowly moving the Greater Houston area Friday afternoon, and dumped up to 6 inches of rain in some areas.

During the recent rainfall event, the lake level increased to slightly over 203 feet above mean sea
level (msl), which is two feet over the lake’s normal pool level of 201’ msl.

Officials warned that many docks, bulkheads, small islands, and other structures were fully submerged after the rain, and could create a very dangerous situation for boaters.
