Lone Star College Plans 'Preparation for Adult Living' Conference
Attendees will learn about the higher education opportunities available to them including studying at Lone Star College.

MONTGOMERY, TX -- Lone Star College-Montgomery is helping individuals cycling out of the state foster system by hosting the Preparation for Adult Living (PAL) College Conference Thursday, April 20 and Friday April 21. Attendees will learn about the higher education opportunities available to them including studying at Lone Star College.
“We are excited to have this unique and beneficial conference on the LSC-Montgomery campus,” said Tanya Taylor, LSC-Montgomery advisor and event coordinator. “The two days are packed with fun events and valuable information. We are focusing on four qualities to achieve success: gratitude, self respect and respect for others, integrity in making choices and perseverance to reach goals and every attendee’s full potential.”
Conference participants will attend campus tours and workshops facilitated by LSC-Montgomery faculty and students with information on admissions, financial aid, education & training vouchers, campus safety, career services and student success. Author, motivational speaker and foster alumnus Sade Burrell will deliver a keynote address at the conference.
The PAL program was implemented in 1986 to ensure that older youth in substitute care were prepared for their departure from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services’ care and support. According to DFPS web site, at any given time, there are about 3,500 youth 16 years of age and older in substitute care. PAL program staff strive to provide each of these youth with skills and resources they will need to be healthy, productive adults.
