Manhunt Ends: Prison Escapee Caught Hiding In Conroe Neighborhood

Escaped inmate who evaded police manhunt in Conroe is found hiding in neighborhood trashcan.

CONROE, TX — An hours-long manhunt for an escaped inmate ended Sunday afternoon when the inmates discovered hiding in a trashcan in a Conroe neighborhood. Cedric Joseph Marks, 44, an experienced MMA fighter, managed to escape from a prisoner transport van when the van stopped a McDonalds for food.

The escape happened at about 7:20 a.m. Sunday in the 800 block of N. Loop 336. Officials have not yet determined how Marks escaped, and are questioning the 10 prisoners and two guards who were also in the van.

When the guards found Marks missing, the immediately called Conroe Police, who called other local agencies to help in the search.

Police set up a perimeter and conducted a search of the area with the help of K9 officers and law enforcement from multiple agencies.

During their search, police obtained video surveillance that showed Marks walking behind a nearby restaurant.

Police found Marks in the 1000 block of Windswept hiding in a trash can, and he surrendered without incident.

Marks was being taken to the Bell County Justice Center in Belton to face charges for two murders in Temple, officials said.
