Montgomery County Inmate Released By Accident Arrested In Houston

Edward Manning, 30, who was accidentally released on a clerical error, and refused to return to jail, was arrested in Houston on Monday.

HOUSTON, TX — A man who was mistakenly released from the Montgomery County Jail and refused to return, is back in police custody. Edward Manning, 30, who was accidentally released due to a clerical error on Dec. 12, was arrested in Houston on Monday.

Manning was being held on a $20,000 bond and charged with felony-assault family violence, but was accidentally released on a personal recognizance bond when officials at the jail mistook him for another inmate who had the same last name.

When the mistake was caught, police called Manning on his cellphone and ordered him back to jail, but he refused.

Witnesses called police and reported seeing Manning at an apartment complex in the 5300 block of Coke Street in Houston.

Investigators from the Gulf Coast Violent Offender Task Force and SWAT officers from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office found Manning at the apartment complex and he was arrested without incident, officials said.

Meanwhile, officials at the Montgomery County Jail are conducting an internal investigation into the error.
